This month we catch up with superstar paralegal Clare Millanta to learn more about her journey with Torrens University’s legal team
.
Tell us a bit about yourself and your background.
I’m a law graduate with a strong background in leadership, compliance, and stakeholder engagement, alongside several years of professional experience in people leadership and service delivery. Before transitioning fully into legal practice, I held management roles in the HR technology space, where I led multidisciplinary teams, developed legally compliant content, and worked closely with internal and external stakeholders to deliver high-quality, employee-focused solutions. Alongside my professional career, I completed my Bachelor of Laws with a Distinction average, followed by my Practical Legal Training, and have now been admitted to the Supreme Court of NSW.
Where were you at with your career at the point you first connected with Yegal?
When I first connected with Yegal, I was at a pivotal point in my career. I had recently completed my Practical Legal Training and was preparing for admission, while also reflecting on how to best transition from senior leadership roles into hands-on legal work. I was keen to gain practical experience in a legal environment that would allow me to apply my skills in research, compliance, and communication, while continuing to learn and grow under experienced practitioners.
Tell us about your experience with Yegal? What was the process once you applied?
My experience with Yegal was extremely positive from the outset. The application process was clear, supportive, and very personalised. Rather than simply matching skills on paper, the team took the time to understand my background, career goals, and the type of legal environment where I would thrive. Communication throughout the process was transparent and encouraging, and I felt genuinely supported at every stage — from application through to placement.
Since you got matched to a job, where have you been working and in what capacity?
Through Yegal, I was matched with a paralegal role at Torrens University. My role involves assisting with legal research, document preparation, compliance matters, and stakeholder engagement across the university. It has been a fantastic opportunity to apply my legal training in a practical, real-world setting while continuing to build my professional confidence and experience.
What’s the best part about working with Torrens University?
The best part about working with Torrens University is the culture. It’s a genuinely supportive and collaborative environment where learning and development are encouraged. I’ve been trusted with allowing me to contribute meaningfully, while also being supported to ask questions, develop my skills, and gain exposure to a broad range of legal and compliance matters. The team is welcoming, professional, and invested in helping people succeed.
Is there anyone at Torrens who has helped you with settling in or mentoring that you would like to give thanks to with this post?
I’ve been incredibly fortunate to work with colleagues who have been generous with their time, knowledge, and support. The entire legal team at Torrens has been particularly instrumental in helping me settle into the role, providing guidance, constructive feedback, and mentorship that has made a real difference to my transition into legal practice. I would especially like to thank Anna Sutton and Nicole Bannerman. I’m very grateful for their patience and encouragement.
What advice would you give to any students thinking of applying to Yegal Paralegal?
My advice would be to absolutely go for it. Yegal offers a supportive and thoughtful pathway into the legal profession, especially if you’re looking to gain meaningful experience rather than just “a foot in the door.” Be open about your goals, trust the process, and don’t underestimate the value of the guidance and advocacy Yegal provides. It’s a fantastic opportunity to bridge the gap between study and practice with confidence.
